Synchronicity And The Essence Of Dreams And Symbols

"Your mind is intricately intertwined with this world." Synchronicity is a phenomenon that cannot be explained through a cause-and-effect relationship but rather through the means of chance. These are events that are not directly correlated but brought together through meaningful coincidence. Can you recall a time where you were discussing or thinking about something or someone, and that object or person appeared at the same time? That is coincidence or chance. Synchronicity takes this a step further as there are situations or events that act outside of this "Chance" and are often seen as impossibilities or miracles; something you would call "Luck." Synchronicity can be used to understand these events as an interplay between the mind and the external world.

It's important to note that these events are not random but are connected through meaning; meaning that goes beyond the naturally observable and is very significant. This phenomenon is, of course, linked to the unconscious mind—the collective unconscious—in which universal symbols and motifs exist alive in the human psyche through different time periods and history. A primordial gift that has been passed down from man to man and yet exists almost independently of him. A child of the mercury of thought, the epinoia passed into man from the dawn of ages. By entering a lowered state of consciousness, delving into the unconscious, we can extrapolate repressed feelings, emotions, or even have access to these archetypes which act as ancient structures of the mind.

Interestingly, these states can be connected to the world of dreams as your dreams can act as a gateway into the unconscious as they serve various purposes, such as providing insight into the individual's psyche, facilitating personal growth, and revealing the interconnectedness of the personal and collective.

Dreams often involve symbols and archetypal elements, such as the anima/animus, the shadow, and the wise old man, appear in various forms in dreams and carry deeper, universal meanings. By exploring the symbolic content of dreams, connecting them to myths, literature, art, and other cultural symbols, you can then uncover meanings and an understanding of the plays that go on within the structures of your mind. Dreams also tend to play a shamanic role of delving into the prophetic through the means of exploring said symbols.

An example of this would be a session Carl Jung had with one of his patients:
"During a therapy session with a woman, Jung was discussing her resistance to therapy and skepticism about the effectiveness of psychological approaches. She talked about one of her dreams and in the dream, she mentioned a golden scarab, and at that moment, he heard a tapping on the window behind him. When he opened the window, a large, golden scarab beetle flew into the room. Jung caught the beetle and presented it to the woman, saying, 'Here is your scarab.'"

In ancient Egyptian mythology, the scarab beetle was a symbol of transformation and rebirth. The scarab was associated with the sun god Ra, and amulets shaped like scarabs were believed to provide protection and bring about new beginnings. This, for the woman, represented a transformation and potential from the woman's skepticism and resistance.

A symbol that is often associated with synchronicity is the mandala symbol, which plays into the microcosm and macrocosm of reality. As above so below; As within so without. As in the mind such can be reflected in reality. It is used in various spiritual and cultural traditions to represent wholeness, unity, and the integration of opposites. Synchronicity is also reflected in quantum physics as there's this idea in non-locality that states particles can cause and effect on one another regardless of location.

So, through the ability to tap into our personal unconscious and the collective, we can perhaps notice phenomena that are perceived to be miraculous and "impossible." In my previous posts, I've mentioned and talked about the potentiality of the primordial chaos, and here, synchronicity is an explanation of how those objects acting within this chaos can interact with one another to produce an unexpected outcome. A universe seemingly alive, though indifferent, bringing forth a realm of possibilities. And we have a license called the mind that enables us to connect to these possibilities, even producing a sort of precognition and prophecies that can be gained from delving into our unconscious minds. We are like particles vibrating at irrelevant locations, still somewhat affecting one another. We are deeply woven into this world, and our guide to it is our minds.
